Chapter 3 - Day Three - The other side of Dubai
This was our second morning in Dubai and we decided to get a proper breakfast. We heard that the hotel had an award winning restaurant called Kitchen6. Since we were really doing only 2 meals a day, Bfast and Late Lunch, we decided to go despite the price DH 140.00 per person, About $50 dollars with tip. Very expensive, but we did not know better, so there we went.
The variety of foods was amazing, an egg station, a Chinese noodles and dim sum station, an Indian station with 2 tandoori bread ovens, and another 5 stations with different breads, cheeses, coffees, etc
It was very impressive and beautiful presentations. We were too busy trying all of the foods so we did not take any photos...lol
Well, after the feast, back to business, since we were leaving that night, we needed the Covid tests to be able to enter Zanzibar in Tanzania. We inquired at the hotel and they informed us they could have it done in our room by a certified nurse and we would get our results before we left the hotel at night, fo course for a price of DH 250.00 ($70.00) each test. We got it done and then we walked to the metro again, loaded up our cards and then proceeded to the Palm.
The palm is a set of islands man made, in the shape of a palm, on the perimeter it has several buildings and hotels, and on the palm leaves houses with oceanfront property delineate the island.
In order to get there, we took the metro, then we switched to a tram that went closer to the coast, where we could get a monorail to the observatory. Yes, it sounds a lot, and it was. Fortunately, our daily pass on the metro covered the tram, but not the monorail, that we had to pay . Regular price was DH40, but we got a 30% discount for having flown with Emirates. Another thing we learned fast, since Emirates gave us the tickets to the Burj Khalifa, and an entrance ticket to Expo 2020, coming on the last chapter of the trip.
The tower on the side of the station is where the observatory is located. We stopped at The View at The Palm station, which is located also in a mall, as always. Here we purchased the tickets to go to the top, and once again Emirates came through. with a 20% discount if you show your boarding pass from emirates, so we saved DH20.00 on each ticket that was originally DH100.00
The views from up there were amazing as you can see in the photos and video below, also on the end of the monorail, you would get to the Atlantis, a complete copy of the one that is around the corner in the Bahamas.
From here we took the monorail again and went to the Atlantis Resort to have a drink by the water. The Bar name was Wavehouse, and they also had some games, and for my surprise, one pinball machine and it was a special one for me as you will see.
Drinks were very expensive, even more than South Beach, so we only had one each and decided to go back to the hotel. We were looking to have Falafel for dinner so we went on a hunt for a place where we could get it. We got to the hotel, changed shows, and then walked to the falafel place, about 30 minutes from the hotel
The place we found was called Operation Falafel, it was a great option. It is a chain, and kind of a fast food option, but the food is amazing and the service was great also. A falafel Platter and a beef Shawarma with drinks came down to DH 60.00, less than $20.00
The Hotel concierge was great and they were able to hold our luggage until we got back for no extra cost, something that was amazing customer service. Now the exciting part really starts since we were leaving the future to travel not only in distance, but as I mentioned before, in time also, and you will see what I mean in the next chapters.
